Demand Design™ is a demand-driven deployment of Tangent AMP™ DERMS technology that uses demand response techniques, but not demand response markets to actively manage customer energy usage during high value opportunities on the energy grid.
Demand Design™ is not Demand Response
Traditional Demand Response programs were developed for the benefit of utilities and power pools. They may require customer curtailment commitments of 60 hours or more per year, potentially lasting up to six hours per occurrence. Demand Response providers offer little or no support for implementing these reductions and impose penalties for non-compliance.
Demand Design™ was developed for the benefit of C&I energy customers and uses Tangent AMP™ DERMS technology to target high-value economic opportunities, such as the few hours each year used to determine capacity charges. For example, in PJM five or fewer hours each year can translate into capacity charges that account for 20% or more of your energy bill. In ISO New England only one hour is used to asses these charges. When the time comes to act, Tangent AMP™ actively manages the entire process at whatever level of automation customers want. If something comes up and adjustments cannot be made, there are never any penalties beyond the cost of a missed opportunity.
In most cases, Demand Design™ is administered through the growing Tangent Energy™ network of energy retailers and municipal utilities with whom customers already have existing relationships. Customers benefit because savings are monetized on the same energy bill they have always received. Because Demand Design™ makes customer energy usage more predictable during peak demand periods, energy providers benefit from lower service costs and higher system-wide reliability.
